How about some diverse pollinator attractant plants that improve curbside appeal and beautify at the same time? Beautiful Spring Flowers! This package is best grown in zones 5-7, but might be able to stretch from 3-9 depending on microclimates.

Redbud – Cercis Canadensis

USDA 4-9
Edible lavender flowers in spring that the bees flock to. Important source of nectar early in spring for honeybees and other nectar sipping insects. Flowers are high in vitamin C, really nice in a salad. Young leaves are edible raw or cooked, so are the young pods and seeds. Small deciduous tree about 20′ tall and wide, beautiful form and shape to the branches and leaves. Flowers develop before leaves so in the spring they’re one of the first things to bloom and as the picture depicts, the stems and branches just load down in flowers. Full shade makes for a slow growing tree and fewer blossoms. Given afternoon shade and full sun all morning, you should have a beautiful addition to an aesthetic landscape anchor point. Nitrogen fixer that guilds well with other food producing trees in a food forest. All around solid pick. Bare root seedling 1′-2′

White Dogwood – Cornus florida

USDA 5-9
Often one of the earliest blooming things in a forest, slightly later than redbud. When established, these trees put on quite a show with a stark white contrast to a forest standing out in a big way. These have always been one of my personal favorites in the woods. Beautiful bark, small tree 10′-25’+ tall with a spread of 20′ wide. Somewhat slow grower, but often long lived. Can tolerate both sun and shade but appreciates dappled light in the understory or morning sun. Wildlife love the bright red fruit, foliage turns dark red in autumn. Beautiful understory accent or focal point tree that brings a smile to everyone’s face in the springtime.
Bare root seedling 1′-2′.

Lilac – Syringa vulgaris

USDA 3-7
Common lilac grows 6′-30′ tall with trunks as large as a foot around and a spread as much as 12′. This large shrub handles a broad range of soil types and conditions but prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil. They transplant easily and are tough as nails. Prefer full sun but handle shade as well. Most people love the scent of the copious blooms in the springtime. Great habitat for small birds and butterfies. Makes a great hedge or screen plant for privacy and beauty. Low maintenance. Bare root plant 1′-2′
