3 – Sawtooth Oak

3 – White Oak

3 – Chestnut Oak

Transform your homestead into a resilient powerhouse with the Oak Bonanza Pack, where ancient wisdom meets modern self-reliance—imagine Joel Salatin-style forest-pastured pigs rooting through a carpet of nutrient-packed acorns, or whitetail deer thriving on a perfectly timed mast drop that sustains them through fall and into winter. These conservation-grade bare root oaks (1′-2′ size) are your one-stop solution for boosting biodiversity, slashing feed costs, and building a sustainable landscape that fights erosion, supports wildlife, and prepares you for uncertain times ahead, all at a fraction of retail prices. Easy to propagate and adaptable to zones 4-8, this pack delivers exponential growth potential: plant once, harvest benefits for generations, from high-protein livestock and wildlife feed to useful timber at the end of their productive lives. Take steps today to reduce future feed store bills—grow your own abundance and keep more money in your pocket!

This package is best grown in a massive range of zones 4-8. Conservation Grade bare root plants 1′-2′ tall

Sawtooth Oak – Quercus acutissima

USDA 5-9

This fast-growing Asian import has naturalized to most of the USA, it reaches 50-70′ with a rounded canopy, serving as a durable shade tree that adapts to various soils from sandy loam to clay. It has a bit of a checkered reputation among purists as it is an imported species. However for this pack our purpose is to get you FAST production and sawtooth can produce within 5 years of planting. That’s incredibly fast for most oaks. While it’s not the most nutritious or palatable being in the red oak group, both pigs and wildlife readily eat it. We include it for the speed at which you can start producing mast drop. Read more here. Bare root seedling 1′-2′ conservation grade.

White Oak – Quercus alba

USDA 3-9

This classic North American native grows into a magnificent shade tree up to 100′ tall with a broad, rounded crown, ideal for large yards or naturalized areas. Its sweet, low-tannin acorns (maturing in one season) drop from late August to early November, providing a preferred food source for whitetail deer (up to 75% of their fall diet) and high-fat, omega-3-rich fodder for livestock like pigs, enhancing meat quality with flavors akin to acorn-finished Spanish ham. Versatile for humans too—acorns can be processed for nutritious flour—while the tree’s deep roots improve soil health and offer erosion control, making it a cornerstone for sustainable homesteading. My personal favorite Oak. Bare root tree Conservation Grade 1′-2′.

Chestnut Oak – Quercus montana

USDA 4-8

Rugged upland specialist, grows 50-70′ tall with a dense, rounded form, excelling as a shade tree on dry, rocky slopes where others struggle. Its large, chestnut-like acorns (from the white oak group) drop later in mid-October to November, extending the mast lineup for reliable whitetail deer forage through leaner months and delivering protein-packed sustenance for livestock, echoing traditional acorn-fed Iberian pork practices. Drought-tolerant with bark prized for tannin, it enhances soil stability and wildlife cover, supporting a no-input, organic permaculture system. This has to be my second favorite Oak of all time. Bare root tree Conservation Grade 1′-2′.

For best results, plant in well-drained soil with full sun to partial shade, spacing 20-30′ apart for optimal growth. Mulch around the base to retain moisture, water regularly during the first year, and add organic fertilizer in spring to encourage robust establishment—no need for heavy inputs long-term as these oaks thrive naturally. Remember the old saying: first they sleep, then they creep, then they leap—watch your pack explode into a self-sustaining forest that feeds your family, animals, and the land!
